What is this blog?

Is it still possible to live a simple green life in the world's most uncomfortable city? When my brother Jack moved to Bangkok a few years back he tried to roll time back to the 1950s and moved an upcountry Thai village into one of the most fashionable parts of the city.

Those were the days when I was nursing serious hangovers in Hollywood, just off the Boulevard. One day I was surprised when my phone rang and I heard Jack, speaking as clear as if he were next door.

"Ron," he said. "You know that big dream I had? It's run into some problems. I need your help, right away, can you get over here next weekend?"

Bangkok. Not what I had in mind. And I had a few local problems too, for starters an appointment with Detective Gonzales at the Hollywood precinct the following Monday. But maybe running off to Thailand was a better plan....

"I'll check the web for a cheap flight," I said.

"The ticket's on me," said Jack.

It's a good thing he said that, I'd stilll be back in Hollywood.
